Anthony Wakeman & Mr. Soon - Points of Origin (CR-7080)
The haunting tones of Native American cedar flute meld with mesmerizing sample-based textures, minimalist guitars and drifting atmospheres to evoke ambient landscapes of breathtaking grandeur. On a sonic journey both exotic and familiar, two diverse artists chart the points of origins within themselves and within us all.
Healing songs are a newer style of soothing harmonized chanting from the Native American Church (or Peyote Church) without the accompaniment of the peyote water-drum or rattle and are meant to facilitate meditation and prayer and provide comfort and peace for the singers and listeners. This recording combines the inspiring sound of healing chants sung by Verdell Primeaux and Johnny Mike with a backdrop of ambient electronic textures and sweeping atmospherics. The result is a innovative and reverent presentation of chants from the time-honored Native American Church tradition.
The timeless sounds of Native American flute, traditional singing and drumming blend with the textures and beats of electronica in a tribute to the resilient spirit of Native peoples throughout North America. This album also features Robert Tree Cody, Delphine Tsinajinnie, William Horncloud, Primeaux & Mike, Jay Begaye and Blackstone Singers.
Inspired by the playfulness of his four-year old daughter as she danced about, Anthony Wakeman created this music for Native American flute. These melodies capture the haunting beauty of the solo flute and reflect the timeless traditions of Native America. Wakeman (of the Gunlake Band of Pottawatomi/Oglala Lakota) is an apprentice flutemaker to his uncle, the noted artist David A. Montour, and his experience as a craftsman gives his composition greater expressiveness and depth.
Etched in the Native traditions of Mother Earth, the music of Aaron White (Navajo/Ute) and Anthony Wakeman (Pottawatomi/Lakota) call to the heart and soul of all life. Like a cascade of water trickling through canyons mixed with winds swirling up from the prairies, the sounds of acoustic guitar and cedar flute summon inner calm and quiet strength.
